Her students have landed jobs on and off Broadway, on National tours, and have competed on the Voice, American Idol, and The Glee Project.
The Playbill Collector (TPC): Tell us about your background?
Sheri Sanders (SS): I grew up doing legit musical theater. It was suggested to me by a friend that I teach people how to sing popular music. I got a book deal with Hal Leonard in 2011, I called it “Rock the Audition”. That book got me into 49 colleges in four years. Now I am working with teachers and students to help them successfully audition for all styles of Rock Musicals. I’m the go-to girl!
TPC: Are you still performing?
SS: Yes, I am. I’m doing legit AND rock musicals. I Just did a reading of an incredible Punk/Rock Musical called ChIX6, and last year I did FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, NEWSICAL AND XANADU. I will always love performing!
TPC: What’s your favorite thing about teaching?
SS: I think it has to do with WHAT I teach. Since popular music is open for interpretation, I get to work with actors and teachers on defining that special combination of researching and soul searching, which is totally individual!
TPC: What are your next steps?
SS: RockThePerformance.com is my next big thing. On the site you can find video tutorials AND on-line classes on my technique. I’m working with Broadway rock music directors and Hal Leonard Publishing to cut and arrange great sheet music for auditions. There are many different levels and ways to train with me- all depending on your needs!
TPC: What’s the ultimate goal?
SS: To train people across the country to study and successfully perform popular music. I want to lead by example and help the community grow.
