Aida, an enslaved Nubian starts to have feelings for her captor, Radames, an Egyptian soldier. One of the problems is, he is betrothed to the Pharaoh’s daughter, Amneris. Their forbidden love blossoms and causes Aida to have to make choices between her people and the man she cares deeply for.
Daebreon Poiema who plays the title role, Aida, is a power house. Her voice is delightful and commands the stage. Richard Bermudez (Radames) is a great counterpart to her and their chemistry on stage makes the story that more real. Bets Malone acts a ditzy Amneris. Vocally, the role seemed a bit of a stretch for her. The best moments were the songs that the cast sang together such as, “The Gods Love Nubia”.
Overall the show was great. With music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice, they make the show fun even though at times, there are sad moments. If you enjoy love stories, this is a good show for you.
AIDA os the first of four shows playing this summer at Moonlight Stage in Vista. For more information on upcoming shows, check out: http://www.moonlightstage.com/
