Born For This: The Musical

Detroit natives, BeBe and CeCe Winans are the youngest siblings of the Winans family dynasty. The two kids are invited to join Jim and Tammy Faye Baker’s Praise The Lord Network television show which changes their lives. As time goes on, the duo become celebrities and go on to create music with a message. Throughout the show, BeBe struggles to learn how to balance his desire for success and his faith.

The four Winans brothers were somewhat narrators throughout the show. Their harmonies were exceptional and entertaining. Alison Whitehurst who played Penny, had an angelic voice. She was showcased more in the second act which was a lovely surprise. The final song of the show, “Book of Life” was stunning. It nearly brought me to tears and was a beautiful high note to end the production.

Costume design by William Ivey Long was perfection. The colorful, matching outfits were fantastic and really made the show pop. The orchestra led by Jaret Landon was also spectacular.

Overall it was a wonderful show. It was uplifting and exciting. The audience had a great time and were very encouraging. During some songs they even engaged with the cast which was fun.
