Catch Me If You Can at Moonlight Stage

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN is based on a true story about Frank Abagnale Jr. who was a con-man of the 60’s.  He runs away from home as a teenager and successfully poses in turn as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer.  The musical was written by the composer and lyricist of HAIRSPRAY which explains the fun, upbeat, dance tunes.  The score is a mix of pop, jazz and Motown.

In the opening song “Live in Living Color” Frank Jr., played by Jacob Haren sings “I’ll be your one man Disneyland” and that he is!  His vocal ability was sensational, his dancing was top notch and his acting was captivating.  Agent Carl Hanratty is usually portrayed as stern and obsessive about finding the crook.  However, in this production, Josh Adamson’s portrayal of the cop was more passive.  He was goofy and somewhat of a pushover.  The audience laughed but I found it distasteful.  The ensemble was noteworthy.  The dancing was exceptional, especially the kick line and tap number.  I found myself bobbing my head along to the music and smiling.
This is the final show in Mooonlight’s summer season.  CATCH ME IF YOU CAN is running now through September 27th, don’t miss it!  For more information check out:
