IN YOUR ARMS is a world premier dance-theatre musical currently playing at The Old Globe in San Diego. The unique events range across cultures and eras to tell stories through the universal language of dance. IN YOUR ARMS runs an hour and forty-five minutes with no intermission.
There are thirteen vignettes which are all based around different love stories. They range from classical ballet to swing, tap, ballroom, jazz, flamenco and more. All of the dancers specialized in their areas, yet were used in many pieces throughout the show. It’s hard to pick a favorite vignette because everything was so spectacular. However, I loved “Lowdown Messy Shame” and “The Dance Contest”.
Each piece of the puzzle was placed together perfectly. Lightening design by Donald Holder was gorgeous. There are very few times that I enjoy projections, yet this production was made even better by them due to Olivia Sebesky’s lovely work.
Do yourself a favor, go see this show! If I have anything to say about it, next stop is Broadway!
