Moonlight Stage Productions in Vista, CA does wonderful summer musicals under the stars. They also do a winter season at the Avo Playhouse in Vista. While I was home visiting my parents, my Dad and I went to see “Life Could Be A Dream” there.
“Life Could Be A Dream” is a jukebox musical with songs “Tears On My Pillow”, “Stay”, “A Sunday Kind of Love” and more. The show has five characters: four guys and one girl. The harmonies were absolutely lovely and each character had its own vibe (nerd, Preacher’s kid, mechanic, etc.) After many of the songs my Dad would turn to me and say “Wow” or “Incredible” due to the blended voices. It was one of those shows that just keeps you smiling.
One of my friends, Clay Stefanki, played Eugene. He was funny, dorky, quirky, and loveable. Not only could he act, he had a wide vocal range and hit high notes like Frankie Valli. I’ve seen Clay perform for many years and he just keeps getting better and better.
This show is well suited for people who like to hear familiar music that they know well. The plot isn’t what makes the show, it’s the songs and they are very entertaining to listen to. I would highly recommend it. The show runs through March 10th. For more information: http://www.moonlightstage.com/
