Nick, played by Brian d’Arcy James was spectacular. You couldn’t help but want to watch him. His facial expressions, gestures and emotions were top-notch. Although I was sad that Christian Borle was out the day I went, his understudy, Eric Sciotto, did a fantastic job playing the sexy Shakespeare role. His tight leather pants and thrusting of his hips, allowed him to be the heart throb.
Costume design by Gregg Barnes was lovely. The big bodices and colorful attire, was perfect for the period piece. Scenic design by Scott Pask, helped round out the production.
For those of you who enjoy musical theater, there are many references to other shows. The big, campy number “A Musical” had the audience cheering, laughing and clapping wildly.
