Bound for Broadway at the Kaufman Music Center

Once a year, Tony nominee and Emmy Award winner, Liz Callaway hosts “Bound for Broadway” at the Kaufman Music Center.  It is a night of interviews of writers of new shows who share selections from their work.  This year, five up and coming musicals were brought to light.  Each show creator was given time to speak with Liz and then they had actors sing a few songs.

Of the five musicals presented, the first one was my favorite called NINE WIVES.  The show was a collaboration between Dan Elish and Douglas J. Cohen.  They had the charming, Adam Kantor, best known for his portrayal of Jamie in THE LAST FIVE YEARS, sing as well as Sarah Stiles.  She sounded exactly like Kristin Chenoweth and could be a major hit in WICKED.

There were many incredible actors and singers in the performance but the show was mostly to give a sneak peek into what could be coming to Broadway.  The concept is very interesting.  Hearing the process of putting the show together was informative and getting a glimpse of what could be seen on stage in the near future was nice.

Although this was a one night production, the Kaufman Music Center hosts many events throughout the year.  Take a look at their website for further details:www.kaufmanmusiccenter.org

One Response to Bound for Broadway at the Kaufman Music Center

  1. Ummm. Your favorite was “Nine Wives”. That’s awkward turtle and more than disturbing. Well, if the PBC says to check it out, “I’m in” (little Book of Mormon reference).

Charles-In-Charge throwin’ the old-school Mormon religion card on the table… JACKPOT! Amen for that hand. I’m being led by the Lord here folks.
